Using the Menu Bar and Toolbar

When you start Transformer, the main menu bar and tool bar appear at the top of the window, as shown in the following image. Some of the menu bar options and tool bar buttons are disabled until you open or create a project.

Note: When one or more projects are opened or created, the menu bar options are enabled. Some of the toolbar buttons, such as Undo or Copy, become available depending on your actions or which tab is currently active.

The toolbar contains buttons that serve as shortcuts for frequently used functions. These functions are also available from the menu bar. For more information on the tool bar, see Transformer Toolbar Buttons.

To explore the available menus and options in Transformer and help you get started with Transformer quickly, open any of the sample projects supplied with the software from the following locations:

Note: The transform_projects folder contains subfolders (for example, csv, edi_x12, etc.) that are named according to the format that is used by the sample Transform project. For more detailed information about the available sample Transform projects, see Sample Transformations.

Note: The ebix_projects folder contains a subfolder called EDI_X12_custom_ebix, which demonstrates how to customize the standard EDI X12 metadata using Dictionary Builder. For more detailed information about using this Ebix Entry project, see Sample Transformations.

The following table lists and describes the options on the menu bar.

Option	Description
File	Enables you to create, open, save, publish, and close projects, and to exit Transformer.
Edit	Provides standard editing tools for working with project elements in the Input and Output Nodes Structure panes.
View	Enables you to view various aspects of a project or all information related to the project.
Project	Enables you to access the Project Properties dialog box, where you can configure options to design and customize your project.
Transform	Provides configuration options.
Tools	Provides access to Library Manager, Server Manager, and various configuration options.
Help	Provides access to Transformer release information and documentation.

The following image shows the File menu options that become available after you select File from the menu bar.

The following table lists and describes the options on the File menu.

Option	Description
New	Creates a new Transform or Ebix Entry project.
Open	Displays a menu that enables you to open a Transform or Ebix Entry project from a file residing on disk, iWay Service Manager Registry, or iWay Service Manager configuration. You can open multiple Transform or Ebix Entry projects if desired. For more information on managing repositories, see Using Server Manager.
Recent Files	Enables you to select and open a project from a list of projects you previously viewed.
Close	Closes the project that is highlighted in the left Projects pane. If you have not recently saved your work, you will be prompted to do so upon closing the project.
Close All	Closes all open projects.
Save	Saves changes made to a project that is currently selected in the left Projects pane. The project remains open.
Save As	Enables you to save your project under a different name. The project remains open. Note: After you use the Save As option on a project, the original version of the project remains active, not the "Save As" version. You must open the newly saved version to continue making changes.
Save All Projects	Enables you to save multiple projects that are opened at once.
Export to Ebix	Enables you to export the highlighted Ebix Entry. This option is only available for Ebix Entry projects.
Export All to Ebix	Enables you to export all currently opened Ebix Entries. This option is only available for Ebix Entry projects.
Publish	Enables you to publish iWay Service Manager components. Transform components can be published to an iWay Service Manager configuration or to the iWay Registry. Ebix Entry components can only be published to the iWay Registry.
Republish	Enables you to publish an already managed component into the former location within the iWay Service Manager Registry or configuration. This option is only available for Transform components.
Template	Enables you to import or export a Transformer template (.xch) file. Note: To manage your transformations, iWay Software recommends using projects instead of templates.
Exit	Exits the Transformer application. If a project is still open, Transformer prompts you to save the project before exiting.

The following image shows the Edit menu options that become available after you select Edit from the menu bar.

The following table lists and describes the options on the Edit menu.

Option	Description
Undo	Reverses the last edit.
Redo	Repeats the last edit.
Cut	Removes the selected node.
Copy	Copies the selected node.
Paste	Pastes the cut or copied node to a new location. Submenu options include: Paste Output. Pastes an output node into a subtree or node. Paste Input. Pastes an input node into a subtree or node.
Optimize Mappings	Optimizes mappings by removing all unmapped output nodes including groups with unmapped children. This option is available only in the Mapping Builder.
Auto-Map	Maps the input structure as a root of the output structure. A confirmation dialog box displays when this option is selected. This option is available only in the Mapping Builder.
Remove All Output Items	Removes all output nodes from the output structure. This option is available only in the Mapping Builder.
Find	Opens the Find dialog box, enabling you to search for text or to search for and map input and output nodes.
Find Next	Finds the next instance in the search.

Option	Description
Show/Hide Mappings	Toggles between showing and hiding the mapping lines between the input and output structures. This option is available only in the Mapping Builder.
Project Navigator	Opens the project navigator on the left side of Transformer. This pane displays a hierarchical view of your project and its components.

The following table lists and describes the options on the Project menu.

Option	Description
Input	Provides options for the input dictionary and data used by your Transform project. Input submenu options include: Dictionary. Allows you to view, reload, or delete the input dictionary. Data. Allows you to view or delete the input data. Input data is needed if you want to test your project. Note: This option is not available for Ebix Entry projects.
Output	Provides options for the output dictionary used by your Transform project. The Dictionary submenu allows you to view, reload, or delete the output dictionary. Note: This option is not available for Ebix Entry projects.
Properties	Opens the Project Properties dialog box, which enables you to set the properties for your highlighted Transform or Ebix Entry project.

Input

Provides options for the input dictionary and data used by your Transform project.

Input submenu options include:

Dictionary. Allows you to view, reload, or delete the input dictionary.

Data. Allows you to view or delete the input data. Input data is needed if you want to test your project.

Note: This option is not available for Ebix Entry projects.

Output

Provides options for the output dictionary used by your Transform project. The Dictionary submenu allows you to view, reload, or delete the output dictionary.

Note: This option is not available for Ebix Entry projects.

Properties

Opens the Project Properties dialog box, which enables you to set the properties for your highlighted Transform or Ebix Entry project.

Option	Description
Test Management	Enables you to manage test profiles to test the transformation of your Transform or Ebix component before they are published. Local and remote testing environments are available. For more information, see Testing Transform and Ebix Components.
Batch Test	Runs the transformation against each document in the specified directory (bulk testing option).

Option	Description
Library Manager	Manages iWay supplied e-business libraries that are available in the system and custom libraries managed by the user. System libraries are read-only and can be exported to custom libraries. For more information on installing and using libraries, see Using Library Manager.
Server Manager	Opens the Server Manager, which lists the defined server configurations for iWay Service Manager. These server configurations can also be shared between applications. For more information, see Using Server Manager.
Options	Opens the Options dialog box, which contains the following areas: General. Options for customizing the interface. Mapping. Options for customizing the Mapping Builder. JDBC Drivers. Enables you to manage the list of JDBC drivers. Encoding. Encoding options for project and template files. For more information, see Customizing the User Interface.

Library Manager

Manages iWay supplied e-business libraries that are available in the system and custom libraries managed by the user. System libraries are read-only and can be exported to custom libraries. For more information on installing and using libraries, see Using Library Manager.

Server Manager

Opens the Server Manager, which lists the defined server configurations for iWay Service Manager. These server configurations can also be shared between applications. For more information, see Using Server Manager.

Options

Opens the Options dialog box, which contains the following areas:

General. Options for customizing the interface.

Mapping. Options for customizing the Mapping Builder.

JDBC Drivers. Enables you to manage the list of JDBC drivers.

Encoding. Encoding options for project and template files.
