Managed Reporting Developer for Windows

In this section:

The WebFOCUS Managed Reporting Developer for Windows enables developers to create and manage domain content. The WebFOCUS Managed Reporting Developer's Manual is written from the perspective of this product, which enables developers to:

By design, all Managed Reporting administrative features are disabled. Developers cannot create, delete, or rename domains using the Managed Reporting Developer for Windows. Developers cannot access the Managed Reporting Administration interface, Dashboard View Builder, ReportCaster Console, or the User Management tree.

Important: Managed Reporting administrators can use this product, but their behavior is the same as that of a developer who has the Data Server privilege. Likewise, developers still have their administrative capabilities when they use the full Developer Studio. For more information on using Developer Studio as an administrator or developer, refer to the WebFOCUS Managed Reporting Administrator's Manual.

Managed Reporting Developer for Windows can also be used to create self-service applications. You can create Server procedures and metadata using the Data Servers area (if you are an administrator, or a developer with the Data Server privilege). You cannot access the Web Applications folder from the Explorer, which is used to create launch pages, and you cannot work in the Project Development area, which includes support for deployment scenarios. In these situations, you must use the full Developer Studio.

Source Control Support

Developer Studio supports third-party source file management products such as Microsoft Visual SourceSafe, ClearCase, CVS, Subversion, PVCS Version Manager from Merant, and others that use an industry standard API. Source file management (called source control in Developer Studio) provides version control for individual and team projects, which allow multiple users to work on the same files without overwriting each other. A source control product manages access to source code and records all code changes.

Developer Studio provides access to basic source control functions through menu options in the Explorer. If your site has installed a supported source control product, you can track the history of project code from within your development environment.

Source control is available from the Projects area in the Explorer, when performing local, stand-alone development, or remote project development against a central WebFOCUS repository. Source control functionality is also available when working from the Managed Reporting area of Developer Studio.

WebFOCUS Developer Studio uses the Source Code Control API (SCC API) that is utilized by the most popular version control systems (VCS) on the market, which include Microsoft Visual SourceSafe, RationalClearCase, PVCS, and many more. The SCC API is an industry standard specification for VCS connectivity defined by Microsoft.

For more information about using Source Control from Managed Reporting, see Managing a Project With Source Control in the Creating Reporting Applications With Developer Studio manual.
