Enforcing Security in WebFOCUS

How to:

This section describes useful techniques that you can use to enforce security in WebFOCUS.

Note: If you are using the Linux operating system, you can skip this entire section.

Procedure: How to Set the EDAEXTSEC Environment Variable
  1. Right-click My Computer and select Properties from the context menu.

    The System Properties dialog box opens, as shown in the following image.

  2. Click the Advanced tab and then Environment Variables.

    The Environment Variables dialog box opens, as shown in the following image.

  3. Click New in the System variables section.

    The New System Variable dialog box opens, as shown in the following image.

  4. Perform the following steps:
    1. Enter EDAEXTSEC in the Variable name field.
    2. Enter PTH in the Variable value field.
  5. Click OK.

    You are returned to the Environment Variables dialog box.

  6. Click OK.

    You are returned to the System Properties dialog box.

  7. Click OK.

    Note: This environment variable must be set so that the security mode remains as PTH even after the system is restarted.

Procedure: How to Set the PTH Security Mode
  1. From the Windows Start menu, select All Programs, Information Builders, WebFOCUS 80 Server, and then click Web Console.

    The Web Console opens.

    Note: The WebFOCUS Reporting Server must be running in order to open the Web Console.

  2. Navigate to Workspace, Access Control.
  3. In the left pane, expand Access Control and then Security Providers, right-click PTH and select Properties from the context menu.

    The PTH Security Configuration pane opens, as shown in the following image.

  4. In the right pane, select y from the authenticate_all_pthuser drop-down list, as shown in the following image.

  5. Click Save.
  6. Select PTH from the Security Mode drop-down list, as shown in the following image.

    The PTH security settings page is displayed, as shown in the following image.

  7. Enter a value in the Server Administrator ID field (for example, iway) and a value in the Password field (for example, iway).
  8. Click Apply and Restart Server.

    Note:

    • You can specify any value for the System Administrator ID and Password. Ensure that you remember these values for future reference.
    • PTH security is one of the security methods to log on to WebFOCUS. You can also use the other security settings, such as OPSYS, LDAP, or DBMS. For more details, refer to the Server Administration for UNIX, Windows, OpenVMS, and z/OS manual.

Procedure: How to Prevent Users From Viewing the Basic Structure
  1. From the Windows Start menu, select All Programs, Information Builders, WebFOCUS 80 Server, and then click Web Console.

    Note: The WebFOCUS Reporting Server must be running in order to open the Web Console.

  2. Enter the server administrator ID and password that were specified during the PTH security mode configuration (for example, iway) in the User ID and Password fields, as shown in the following image.

  3. Click Log in.
  4. Navigate to Access Control and click Settings, as shown in the following image.

  5. Ensure that the default_admin_role field is set to None.
  6. Click Apply and Restart.
