How to Choose Between the Refresh and Upgrade Functions

In this section:

If you are applying a Service Pack to an existing version of FOCUS, execute the Refresh function of ISETUP.

If you are upgrading to a new version of FOCUS, execute the Upgrade function of ISETUP.

For example, to go from FOCUS Service Pack 7.6.2 to FOCUS Service Pack 7.6.3, use Refresh. To go from FOCUS Service Pack 7.3.9 to FOCUS Version 7.6.x, use Upgrade.

Upgrading to FOCUS 7.6.x

In FOCUS Version 7.6, the HLI module has been removed and replaced by HLIH.

FOCUS 7.6 is an LE application. As a result, if an existing HLI program is not LE compliant, it must be made so. Once an HLI application is LE compliant, dynamic HLI programs run without change. Static HLI programs should be re-linked.

In FOCUS Version 7.6, the SAS/C 6.5.0 link library is no longer distributed and should not be used. The IBM C compiler has been used to create this release.

Installing Without the Use of ISETUP

ISETUP is not certified for installing FOCUS on a machine that has no prior version of FOCUS. If you need to do this type of installation or if you do not want to use ISETUP, you can manually install or upgrade using the instructions in Basic Installation Steps. ISETUP.DATA is the first file on the distribution cartridge. Therefore, to unload the FOCUS data sets without the ISETUP.DATA file, you must start unloading with file number 2 on the distribution cartridge. This is reflected in the JCL sample documented in Basic Installation Steps.
