Overview of the ISETUP Procedure

Overview of ISETUP When Unloading From a Cartridge

The following is a high level summary of how to execute ISETUP:

  1. Mount the distribution cartridge. Depending on your requested media type, you will receive one or multiple cartridges.
  2. Create the JCL to unload the first data set from the distribution cartridge using the sample JCL provided in Unload ISETUP.DATA From the Distribution Cartridge. This data set contains the ISETUP procedure.
  3. Execute the ISETUP procedure from the ISPF command shell.
  4. Fill in the information requested on the screens displayed by ISETUP.
  5. Enter the GO command when ready to proceed.
  6. Verify or change the list of optional components installed at your site.
  7. Verify that the job created by ISETUP was successful by examining the completion codes for each step. Valid completion codes are described in Acceptable Non-Zero Return Codes.
  8. When this is complete, you have a test environment with the upgraded or refreshed version of FOCUS, which is ready to be tested using your site's verification standards.
  9. After successful testing of this environment, move the test environment to production according to your site's standards.

Overview of the Electronic Download Process

The following is a high level summary of how to receive the service pack or upgrade electronically:

  1. FTP the ISETUP.DATA.BIN (domestic version) or ISETUP.DATA.INTL.BIN (international version) file to your system.
  2. RECEIVE the ISETUP.DATA file to a PDS.
  3. Execute the ISETUP procedure from the ISPF command shell.
    1. Fill in the information requested on the screens displayed by ISETUP.
    2. Enter the GO command when ready to proceed.
    3. Verify that the ISETUP job was successful by examining the completion codes for each step. Valid completion codes are described in Acceptable Non-Zero Return Codes.

    When this is complete, you have a basic test environment with the service pack or upgrade applied which is ready to be tested using your site's verification standards.

  4. After successful testing of the service pack or upgrade, move the test environment to production according to your site's standards.

Customized Settings That Are Reapplied

The following customizations from your current production installation are reapplied to the new files by ISETUP:

Important: ISETUP unloads or downloads the files for any data adapters (Interfaces) that you have in your current production release. Therefore, you do not have to allocate and unload or download the data adapter files manually. However, using the instructions in the relevant Installation Guides for those data adapters, you must reinstall every data adapter to which you want to have access in the upgraded or refreshed version of FOCUS. It is important to make sure you unload the correct files by checking the file numbers against the table of file numbers found in Unload the FOCUS Distribution Tape.

Customized Settings That Are Not Reapplied

The following customizations from your original installation are not reapplied by ISETUP. For these customizations, you must follow the instructions in the FOCUS Installation Guide for your current production version of FOCUS:

Note: If these features were installed in your current production version of FOCUS, ISETUP will create any necessary libraries under the new high level qualifier.

If you run FOCUS out of LPA libraries, you must follow do the following:

  1. Copy all the reentrant modules back into FOCLIB.LOAD from FOCLPA.LOAD. (Use JOB JFSCPBCK. It is recommended that you compress FOCLIB.LOAD before you perform the copy.)
  2. Run ISETUP.
  3. Copy the reentrant modules from FOCLIB.LOAD back into FOCLPA.LOAD. (Repeat JOB JFSCPLPA. It is recommended that you compress FOCLPA.LOAD before you perform the copy.)
  4. Delete the reentrant modules FROM FOCLIB.LOAD. (Repeat JOB JFSDELPA.)
