Resource Analyzer and Resource Governor Enhancements
Version 7 Release 7.05
Collecting DEFINE Fields in Resource Analyzer. DEFINE
fields and base Master File fields referenced by a DEFINE are now
collected for monitored sources. A new option on the Monitored Properties
page has been included to activate this level of monitoring. The
default for the setting is Not to monitor.
Field Size Changed for Governing Field Names. Resource
Governor has been enhanced so that Resource Thresholds, Rule file
sources, and complied rule files names can now be up to 48 bytes
long. The exception to this is the PDS deployed server, where names
can only be 8 bytes long due to PDS and PDSE name limitations.
Monitor Settings Page in Configuration Process. The
monitoring properties page, where the granularity of monitoring
can be set, is now included in the configuration process of Resource
Management. It can still be accessed after configuration has been
complete.
SMUSERID Size Increased to 128 Characters. Resource
Management now supports the monitoring of users who have IDs up
to 128 characters long.
Support for 512 Column Name. Resource
Management now supports the monitoring of column (field) names up
to 512 characters long.
Reports Show DBMS Time. A
number of reports have been enhanced with a new data column that
shows the time spent in the adapter used in a request.
Version 7 Release 7.04
Managing Monitored Sources. Adding
Application data sources to be monitored by Resource Management
has been enhanced. A new dialog box has been added for the addition
and removal of monitored sources. It is also possible to set monitoring
at the application level. If all resources in an application are
to be monitored, it is no longer necessary to identify each individually.
Capture Agent Service Name. The
WebFOCUS Reporting Server service name, under which a user request
is run, is now collected by Resource Management for inclusion in
user written reports. The field in the repository where this information
is stored is called SMSVCNAME and is 64 characters in length. This
field can be found in the SMSESS segment of the RMLDB Master File.
Enhanced Domain Usage Report. The
Resource Analyzer Domain Usage report has been enhanced to show
the Last Run and Last Access date for each domain that user requests
have been submitted from. The first page of the report will show
the Last Access date for each domain, and the first level drill
down will show Last Run date for each report Name (request) within
the selected domain.
Ability to Delete Global Rule Files. In
prior releases of Resource Management, it was possible to delete
a Business Rule but not the global rule or rules that it was referenced
in. This new feature allows unused Global Rule data to be deleted from
the system database and the rule file deleted from the file system
(or from the SMARTLIB library on a z/OS platform).
Monitor SQL Stored Procedures. This
feature provides monitoring of relational database Stored Procedure
executions. The monitored data will be saved in the SMRPCS segment
of the RMLDB repository.
Version 7 Release 7.03
Event Routing. Event
routing allows you to launch procedures or send e-mail based on
different server events. This feature includes five new predefined notifications
having to do with five different types of events that can occur
in Resource Analyzer. The notifications are captured and visible
in the edaprint log file and can be sent through e-mail.
Collecting Data in the Resource Management Repository. To
enable the collection of more data, fifteen new fields have been
added to the Resource Management repository. This data can be used
to display more information regarding the traffic in the organization
of the user. The new fields were added in the following three segments:
SMSESS, SMRPCS, and SMQUERY. They are available for use in custom
reports.
Non-Archived Log Files. This
feature provides the user with the option of manually archiving
non-archived log files.
Data Manipulation Language Monitoring. Data
Manipulation Language (DML) is a deprecated option for SET SMARTMODE.
When SET SMARTMODE=ON is used, it includes the monitoring of SQL
Data Manipulation Language commands. SQL INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE,
and other select DML commands are also monitored.
Create Repository DDL Only Option. Selecting
the option DDL Only on the configuration
pane of the server Web Console creates and saves the DDL so that
it can be amended to adhere to any standards that are required by
the user site. The DDL can then be run manually by any authorized
user. Once the Repository tables have been created, the configuration
process can be completed using the Web Console. This feature will
create the Data Definition Language for repository tables for Resource
Management but will not create the physical tables. This feature
can be used for any relational database supported by the Resource Management
product.
Version 7 Release 7.02
Configuring Many-to-One Monitoring. Several
considerations and steps must be taken in order to configure Resource
Management to gather monitor data for multiple servers into a single
repository. This feature can only be used with relational adapters.
Access must be available from each server machine to the selected
relational engine and a license is needed for each individual adapter.
All servers in a cluster environment, or multiple servers on UNIX,
AS/400, MVS/PDS, and Windows platforms, can collect monitor data
into a single repository.
Domain Analysis Report. The
Domain Analysis Report provides information on the usage of the
WebFOCUS domain and its reports and users.
Domain Usage Report. The
summary version of the report displays the Domain name, the number
of reports from the Domain that have been monitored, the number
of users that have run Domain reports that have been monitored,
the average execution time of all of the monitored reports in the
Domain, and the average CPU time used by all of the monitored reports
in the Domain.
