Since the instant flash of a new map image can be jarring to the viewer, you can designate two attribute values in the esriinfo.xml to specify how the transition between map images progresses. As a result, a more gradual apperance of the changed map is created.

The attributes you need to change can be found within the <mapwindow> tag. The fadedelay="50" and fadefactor="20" attributes contain default values that will cause a 50 millisecond delay before fading an additional 20% of the image.
