Installation Notes

This section contains installation notes pertaining to iWay Service Manager (iSM) Version 6.1.9.

The following components can be downloaded from the Technical Support website (http://techsupport.ibi.com):

iSM Version 6.1.9 requires Java Version 1.6 as the minimum run-time environment.
Note: The iSM 6.1.9 installer requires Java Version 1.6.0_23 or higher. You must verify that this version is available on your system before installing iSM Version 6.1.9.
iSM Version 6.1.9 can be installed in the same environment where a previous version of iSM is currently installed (for example, iSM 5.5, iSM 5.6, or iSM 6.0). You can migrate the previous version of your application to the latest 6.1.9 version.
The iSM Version 6.1.9 Java installer can upgrade an existing 6.1.x installation. The Windows installer cannot be used to upgrade previous 6.1.0 versions, since the installation itself has changed. However, the Windows installer can be used to upgrade an existing 6.1.1 or higher installation.
iWay Integration Tools (iIT) can be downloaded as part of iSM and is the recommended development environment. iSM Version 6.1.9 requires the use of a corresponding iIT 6.1.9 release and will not work with any prior versions of iIT.

The j2ee.jar file is not shipped with the iSM Version 6.1.9 installation. If you are planning to use the iWay Adapter for IBM WebSphere MQ (MQSeries) or the iWay Adapter for .NET, you must download this file from the Oracle Technology Network website (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/index.html) and copy it to the [iWayHome]\lib directory.
iSM Version 6.1.9 requires Microsoft® XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 7 (SP7) to be installed on your system if you are using tools such as iWay Designer. You can download this version of MSXML from the Microsoft® website at:

To install iWay Service Manager on a machine that is running Windows Server 2003, you must first download and install the following update for Windows Server 2003 from the Microsoft Download Center:

iSM Version 6.1.9 installer for UNIX does not update the profile. As a result, the IWAY61SM environment variable is not added into the profile. If the environment variable is required, you must manually update the profile.
For optimal performance when running on a Windows platform, it is recommended to run the server out of process by using one of the following commands in the command window:
```
iwsrv <configname> -l java
```
This command will execute the named configuration out of process as a started task with the console.
```
iwsrv <configname> -s install –l java
```
This command will install the named configuration as a Windows service. It will not start the service. When started, the service will run java.exe out of process (-l java).

Logging is enabled by default in the iWay Service Manager Administration Console. In a high volume, high performance environment, you may want to disable logging.
Windows 64-bit machines will only run with the service installed with the -l java option. For more information on how to reinstall the service with this option, see the iWay Installation and Configuration documentation.
iSM Version 6.1.9 requires Administrative rights for installation and run time. If you are installing iSM 6.1.9 on Windows Vista, note that the User Account Control (UAC) mode is enabled by default. UAC is a special mode of operation available on Windows Vista that affects the functionality of administrator accounts. To avoid any errors that deny access, you must grant permission to the iSM 6.1.9 installation program to use administrator privileges. As a workaround, right-click the iway61SM.exe file and select Run as administrator from the context menu.
If you are installing iSM 6.1.9 on Windows 7, note that you need to lower the UAC settings accordingly to enable iSM installation to use administrative privileges, as well. In general, UAC center should enable you to either lower or disable security settings and enable administrative privileges for installation and run time of iWay Service Manager.
The iWay Service Manager 6.1.9 installation for Windows (iway61SM.exe) is a 32-bit installer program and when installed on a 64-bit platform, it cannot be installed under the C:\Program Files\ directory. The installer will automatically change the installation location to C:\Program Files (x86)\. In addition, the installer will append the \iwaysm folder directory to any installation into the Program Files location. If you are installing to a different Windows location not under the Program Files structure, no additional handling will be done by the installer program and the installation will proceed with no change.
The iSM 6.1.9 installer for UNIX fails to write certain files when installing to an existing directory. To prevent missing files, a full installation must be made to a new directory.
Installation of the iSM 6.1.9 release into a non-empty directory is not supported. The iSM 6.1.9 release must be installed into a pre-existing empty directory or into a non-existent directory, in which case, the directory will be created by the installer.
iSM 6.1.9 Windows installer supports only ASCII characters for information that you enter directly during the installation (for example, Company Name).
As of iSM Version 6.1.9, the iWay Technology Adapter for RDBMS supports the XMLType data type for Oracle databases. If you are planning to use this functionality, then the adapter requires the xdb6.jar and xmlparserv2.jar files to be installed with the ojdbcx.jar driver. These JAR files are not included with the iSM distribution and must be obtained from Oracle. Versions of these JAR files should match and correspond with the version of the Oracle database engine being used.
