Understanding the FIX Protocol

The Financial Information eXchange (FIX) protocol is an electronic communications protocol initiated in 1992 for international real-time exchange of information related to the securities transactions and markets. The messages can be in FIX format (flat file message) or FIXML format (XML representation of FIX messages). These messages can be exchanged between a partner and any other financial industry applications such as Bloomberg, ICE, NYSE, and NYCE.
