As an enhancement, the system strips unwanted trailing field delimiters. However, the trailing field delimiters might be a requirement for some of the clients. This behavior is not controlled using the PRESERVE_EMPTY_FIELD_DELIMETERS property. This property is present in the hl7.properties file, within iwhl7.jar found in the lib folder under installation location.

Use winzip or winrar tools to look at the contents of iwhl7.jar. The hl7.properties file is located in the root folder within this jar. Extract this file and set the PRESERVE_EMPTY_FIELD_DELIMETERS property value to true. Replace the property file present in the jar with this modified file. In order for the changes to take effect, place the modified jar as per above instructions in the lib folder and restart ISM.
