Unification is identifying groups of records that belong to one logical entity (usually called client), based on a certain set of criteria. The grouping process consists of two stages: dividing records into wider candidate groups and then narrowing them to client groups.

In addition, some rules, called manual overrides, can be applied to exceptions when assigning particular records to client groups.
