Possible Problem List

Problem:

After GENFS completes without errors FOCUS does not work.

Cause:

You may have loaded a new FOCUS Release cartridge onto a maintenance disk that contains a previous FOCUS release.

Action:

Define a new maintenance disk and reinstall. Or, erase all the old files from the maintenance disk USING the CMS format command, and reinstall.

Problem:

GENFS ABORTS with DMSLIO109S error.

Cause:

Virtual storage exceeded.

Action:

Issue the command CP DEFINE STORAGE for a larger virtual storage size and re-IPL.

Problem:

After successful GENFS, FOCUS aborts with an addressing exception 141T in routine FOCMAIN and you are returned to CMS.

Cause:

Your FOCUS DLL or NSS is overlaying another active NSS.

Action:

  1. Check the disk space allocated for the NSSs. They must conform to sizes specified in Chapter 2, Basic Installation.
  2. If you have selected your own name for the NSSs, verify that the references to FOCSEG and DLLSEG in the FOCMAIN EXEC have been changed to reference your NSS names in the FOCUS EXEC.
  3. Reread section and verify the following:

FOCUS’ NSSs, do not overlap other NSSs, define to CP.

Starting address of FOCUS’ NSSs are above highest address of any virtual machine using FOCUS.

Based on starting address of each NSS, that the current segment definitions have been calculated and entered.

Problem:

GENFS prompts for the address of the FOCUS NSS.

Cause:

The IBIDFSEG EXEC is missing or does not specify the NSS that you are attempting to install.

Action:

Check that the IBIDFSEG EXEC is available and that it includes the appropriate NSS.

Problem:

GENFS gives the message STORAGE IN USE.

Cause:

CMS is using storage where the segment is to be loaded.

Action:

Define more storage and IPL CMS. FOCUS should always be installed from a newly IPL'ed virtual machine.

Problem:

GENFS indicates the DLL segment failed to load properly.

Action:

Redefine the DLL segment using values found in IBIDFSEG. If DLLSEG fails, this segment is purged. Issue the following commands:

IPL CMS
ACCESS (NOPROF

Access the disk with FOCLIB LOADLIB

EXEC GENLLSEG dllname

Note: FOCUS will not execute without DLLSEG. User storage may need to be increased.
