Define FOCUS Production and Maintenance Disks

The total disk space requirements are summarized in the following table:

Maintenance disk

81,000 4K 3390 blocks (450 cylinders).

Production disk

31,500 4K 3390 blocks (175 cylinders).

For SFS directories, allow the number of 4K blocks specified above plus 20 percent.

For National Language support (NLS), the maintenance requirements increase by 1000 4K blocks for each language on the cartridge. Production disk requirements increase by 1000 4K blocks for each language used.

For FBA disks that are allocated in 512-byte blocks, take the number above and multiply by 8. A 512-byte blocksize is not recommended.

For a CKD device, allocate the appropriate number of cylinders to give the required amount of space. The following table lists a common CKD device from IBM and the number of 4K blocks that fit on a cylinder.

Device

4K Blocks/Cylinder

3390-3

180

The production and maintenance disks should be two distinct CMS minidisks or SFS directories and must have no files on them. If you define new CMS disks for these functions they must be formatted by the CMS FORMAT command. The sizes above are calculated for disks formatted in 4K blocksizes.

The CMS label is immaterial to FOCUS. Refer to Features and Components, for suggested disk labels.
