Shared Storage

The NSSs (Named Saved Segments) are dynamically defined and no special preparation is necessary. Shared storage conserves system resources such as real storage, paging devices, and paging. Because many virtual machines use the same FOCUS modules, only one copy of the modules, rather than many, must be paged in and out of real storage. Thus, the system uses real storage more efficiently, there is less need for space on paging devices, there is less contention for paging, and users can define smaller virtual memory sizes.

The IBIDFSEG EXEC is used to define the TRW, DLL, and HLI NSSs. For detailed information about using this EXEC, see Basic Installation.
