Virtual Machine Size Requirements

The virtual machine size required to run FOCUS is described in the following table:

CMS Level

Minimum Virtual Machine Size in Megabytes

21

32

22

48

23

48

The minimum configuration is adequate for dealing with simple files and modest maintenance procedures. In order to run the most extreme production level applications, it is recommended that you define at least 10 additional Meg.

If you will also be using IBM 3270 type terminals for high-resolution FOCUS graphics, you will need additional memory, unless the GDDM graphics support program is implemented as a Named Saved Segment (NSS). If it is in an NSS, the use of GDDM will not increase the virtual machine size requirements in any significant way.

If you are accessing a non-FOCUS data source, for example, DB2 for VM, you may also need additional memory.

Maintain application developers who use the FOCUS Winform Painter may also need additional memory.

If the ID will be used as a FOCUS Database Server (sink machine), you need a minimum of 64 Meg.
