A Master File describes the data source from which you are reporting. Metadata is a map of the data source and all of the fields. Metadata, also known as a Master File, can determine what fields are in the data source, what they are named, and how they are formatted. You can also determine how the fields in the data source relate to each other. To begin creating a Master File, you use the Data Source Definition Wizard, which guides you through the steps that you need to follow to open recently used Master Files, create a new Master File, or edit an existing Master File.

You use the Metadata canvas, and the available tab and panels, to develop your Master File.
